A Big Change

Story by TheWhiteKnight

Hi there everyone. Long LONG time lurker here. Finally decided to have a go at uploading something of my own. I'm new to this forum stuff so any help on formatting and such is welcome. Here's the first chapter of what could potentially be a big series. I've got lots of ideas for things going forward, whether I'll include them here or in other stories I still haven't decided. If people want to suggest anything, whether it's things they want to see in the story or ways to improve my writing etc. I'm all ears. Anyway, this first chapter is going to serve mostly as an introduction so there's nothing too raunchy in there. I'm quite a busy guy so updates could be sporadic but hopefully the chapters will be worth the wait! Enjoy.

“Hey Becky!” I heard someone shout from behind me. I wasn’t feeling myself that day so I was a bit slow to respond. I turned around to see my best friend Sam bounding up to me.

Damn, I swear she became more attractive every time I saw her. Something about natural redheads always seems to grab my attention. Of course it helped that she was probably one of the most beautiful girls I’d ever seen in real life. I tried to rise above it, but I always found myself getting envious of her curves. She was big and small in all the right places; whereas I was on the small side in all the places. It took a lot of my willpower not to stare.

Sam and I met at a gig at our student union. I was there with the metal society trying to make a few friends in freshers week, when I spotted her at the bar. Back then she had a pretty shy demeanour, and she looked completely out-of-place there with her colourful clothes standing out in the sea of black band shirts around her. I blended in a little better but I still didn’t really feel too comfortable. I don’t really like the tattoo and piercing look that a lot of the goth girls seem to go for. I still went with the dark hair, clothes and makeup but piercings and so on are way too permanent for me.

Immediately I knew I wanted her. After a few drinks and during the lull between the bands I plucked up the courage to go and speak to her.

“Hey, how’s it going?” I shouted at her after ordering myself another drink. The music in there was still incredibly loud, and she had to shout in my ear in order for me to hear her.

“Uh, hey to you too. Are you new here as well?”

“Yeah, just started a few days ago.” I could feel my usual shyness melting away under the influence of the alcohol. “I’m Becky, great to meet you. So, what’re you studying?”

“Oh, um, I’m studying Chemistry.” She seemed so shy, I have to admit it was kinda cute.

“Oh really? Me too! Guess we’ll be seeing a lot of each other around.”

“Yeah probably true. What do you think of the band?” she asked, seeming to loosen up a little bit.

“They’re alright I guess, really not my thing though. I prefer heavier stuff.” I was trying my best not to check her out too much, but the top she was wearing was showing a lot of cleavage and it was a struggle not to stare. She didn’t seem to notice though; either that or she was too polite to say anything.

“Yeah I think I agree with you there. Ok it’s time for a little compatibility test: who’s your favourite chemist?”

“Walter White” I replied without hesitation.

Sam burst out laughing when I said it, I think she’d had a few drinks herself. When she finally calmed down she replied, “Well I meant a real chemist but I think you’ve passed the test anyway.” She paused, “Listen, I know we’ve just met but do you fancy getting out of here? I’m meeting some friends at a bar in the city centre later. I think it’d be great for us to get to know each other better, even if it’s just so we have someone to study with.” She continued.

“Yeah sure that sounds great.” I had to shout so that she could hear over the sound of the band that was just starting. We headed outside and grabbed a cab into the city.

One of the first things I learned about her that night was that she had come to university with her boyfriend, which pretty much dashed my hopes of a chance at her. It was disheartening at first but I had an amazing time with her that night and we quickly became best friends. We were practically inseparable during our first year and moved in together as soon as possible. The only source of conflict in our friendship was that she was always trying to set me up with her boyfriend’s friends and guys she spoke to in clubs. I kept turning them down, but I still wasn’t ready to tell her that I was into girls. I was firmly in the closet in those days, I hadn’t even told my family about it.

She finally figured it out the day I lost my virginity to a girl I met on a night out. I guess when a stranger leaves your housemate’s room after a night out you tend to pick up on it. To be honest I don’t have any memory of the act itself I was so drunk. The only thing I can remember is the shock of waking up with someone in your be
