Tales from Mojave Wasteland: Chapters from the setting of Fallout

Story by Crusadera

I've been (finished twice actually) playing Fallout New: Vegas (72 hours, yikes) If you have the PC version I highly recommend checking out:http://www.newvegasnexus.com/index.php Almost 2000 mods developed now and plenty of Fallout 3 port mods.

The main story revolves around Liadrin, an ex-Brotherhood of Steel Paladin, in the Mojave Wasteland setting of the Fallout Universe. Either 5-7 chapters, and hopefully some non-plot related short stories in the same setting.

Very open to constructive criticism, especially those familiar to the Fallout Universe.

To get an idea of what Mr. New Vegas sounds like (who is actually voiced by Wayne Newton, Mr. *Las* Vegas) Listen to this pre-release developer commentary:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhStFCXMsAk

At some point I plan on creating an in-game character of what Liadrin looks like. (Tough build obviously, I mean she carries a laser gatling and power armor, short red hair.)

Update: Chapter Four is up.

"Hello everyone this is Mr. New Vegas, telling everybody that somebody loves you. It's me. I love you. Whoops better put my newsman fedora here cause I've got news coming your way... Primm has officially sworn in a new sheriff today, RNV reporters were standing by to take a quote from newly appointed Sheriff Meyers. 'Howdy folks, this is Sheriff Meyers. Be good. Or I'll shoot you dead.'... NCR Rangers can expect re-deployment in the near future, an anonymous NCR soldier said it was part of a new strategy... Next up: NCR Correctional Facility has gone to prisoner control following a successful riot, locals should avoid anyone who looks like they've done time... That's all for today, I'd like to end it by playing a song for you made by a very swell guy and that guy is Johnny Guitar..."

Liadrin switched off the radio as she turned to the ham radio, fiddling with the controls, scanning through the frequencies. Nothing, as always. She turned to a holomap on the wall of the outlying regions around the New Vegas Strip. Several marks were made on the map crossing out specific locations, only several remained untouched.

"Vault 34..." She mouthed out, making no sound.

It rained heavily as Liadrin stood within eyesight of the well known Vault 34, once the home of the now known,"Boomers" which took up residence at nearby Nellis Airforce Base, shelling the fuck out of anything that came within range of their artillery. As opposed to being a safeguard against nuclear winter, most vaults were massive social experiments conducted by Vault-Tec Industries. Vault 34 in particular was overstocked with a huge surplus of guns and ammunition, grenades and mines, experimental and top of the line weapons. After these many years people thought they could plunder their riches only to find out that the entrance of Vault 34 was crawling with extreme radiation. After the Boomers escaped from Vault 34 and made Nellis their new home, the remaining denizens became feral ghouls, however there are tales of some retaining their intelligence.

Liadrin's geiger counter began tick tock ticking away. "My power armor will be sufficient enough to make it past the entrance... still... better pop some Rad-X for good measure." Liadrin's power armor was specially modified to administer certain chems, Rad-X among one of them.

"Rad-X administered -- Radiation resistance 84% -- Suit Radiation optimization 100%" The suits automated voice spoke out. The rain poured down ferociously, panging loudly against her power armor. Liadrin gripped her gatling laser tightly, her HUD displaying roaming feral ghouls at the entrance of the fabled vault. She double checked her gatling ammo check and kept her plasma pistol at her hip.

Liadrin slowly approached the entrance of Vault 34, located deep within the heavily radiated caverns, the most probably cause of the heavy radiation was that the cave was used as an illegal toxic chemical dump site before the Great War started. The ghouls seemed to bask in the radiation given off by the toxic pools outside the cave entrance. To ghouls and super mutants, radiation was more of a warming, *healing* feeling to them.. A poorly written sign said,"TURN BACK - RADIATION/GHOULS"

An idle green glowing ghoul lulled around, it turned suddenly towards Liadrin. The ghoul shrilled loudly, screaming into the rain alerting the rest of the nearby ghouls, which in tandem shrieked as the group of them rushed towards Liadrin. Liadrin dropped several plasma mines and began to fall back from the charging ghouls, her gatling on full auto as it mowed down the lesser ghouls, disintegrating into piles of ash. Several ghouls with some tattered armor on survived the initial volley of lasers, only making as far as the small pile of plasma mines, which simultaneously detonated turning the group of ghouls into piles of green goo.

The rain continued
