Three Nights in Nowhere
By Sinasa Lyre
Three days from the wedding...
Ayanna splashed cold water across hir face, letting the cool rush of clear liquid soak into the whites and browns that patched across hir fur and matting it down against hir features. The small calico lifted hir head, looking into the mirror in front of hir as shi frowned a little bit before flicking hir paws to sling the water from them back into the sink. No matter what shi did, shi just felt off; not on top of hir game now that shi was back here. Sure, some people might think that it was the long 10 hour drive shi had this morning or maybe it was all the unpacking, it could even have been the arduous preparation for the wedding that would be coming in three days. All of those things could really frazzle anyone's nerves.
But not for this little house cat. Shi just wasn't happy being back home. Ayanna had spent most of hir life in this small town that was filled with country bumpkins and jocks. Ayanna was cute but small, more feminine then most herms, especially in this town. It was true what they say after all, they grow them big out in the country, but it seemed shi was the little exception to the rule. The cat was only 5'3" tall and no more than 110 lbs. Heck, most of the people at hir high school figured shi was just one of the girls until shi was found out in the first day of gym. After that day, shi spent every moment of hir high school days getting teased, humiliated and even some times beat up by the other herms in school. Needless to say, it was not a good experience for the poor, small herm. Shi spent the whole time planning to leave and the moment shi was out of high school shi left for the big city.
Life got better and better the moment shi left this burg. Hir natural talent for style made hir perfect for fashion design and it wasn't long before shi was one of the best in the nation. With hir fame came jobs, wealth and shi was happy. On top of that shi had met Kasi, hir fianc‚e and they were to be married in three days. How could shi not be overjoyed? Well, shi was back home.
Ayanna dried hir paws off and then walked out of the bathroom, only to be overwhelmed by the busy sounds of a diner in the middle of the dinner hour rush. Hir eyes scanned over the bustling waitresses and customers to find hir lovely girlfriend sitting in a booth, standing out to her, at least, amongst the crowd like a diamond in the rough. After all, it was rare enough to see humans on this continent, let alone in an out-of-the-way little town like this. But even if Kasi was a fur, she would turn heads. The beautiful human girl had the perfect figure: 5'11" was tall for your average human, but small compared to the furs in this town, perfect curves and just enough meat on her bones to make sure she wasn't overly skinny, which was a common problem as far as Ayanna was concerned in Kasi's line of work.
Kasi was a model, which is actually how the two met in the first place. Ayanna smiled to hirself as shi remembered how, when they had first met, shi had figured there was no way shi would ever have a chance with a girl that beautiful. But amazingly enough, it was Kasi who asked the small fur on a date, not the other way around. Ayanna would quickly, however, learn that Kasi was the aggressive type, and now shi was going to marry this wonderful angel.
Shi wanted to sit and watch hir future wife from across the room, to remind hirself of how all this was worth it for hir love, but shi was snapped out of hir revelry by a hard shoulder slam from a passing fur that nearly sent hir spinning. Shi let out a little grumble, rubbing hir shoulder as shi saw the large wolf only give a grunt for an apology, reminding hir once again of how much shi hated this town. Everyone was so rude!
Crossing the room, Ayanna smiled to hir girlfriend as the human looked up from her menu, returning the smile and even blowing a kiss to Ayanna. "What took you so long, love? I was worried you might have gotten hurt by one of these big furs wandering around here." Kasi said with a snicker as Ayanna sat down across from Kasi in the booth, grumbling a little bit.
"I'm not that small, dear. I wish you wouldn't tease me like that," Ayanna mewled out as Kasi only smiled, waving it off as only teasing. It wasn't like Kasi was trying to hurt hir feelings; they teased each other like this all the time. It was just that being back here was dredging up some bad memories of hir past. So, why was Ayanna here? Well, Kasi had always wanted to have her wedding out in the coun
